Turn a recording into a skill

Last updated Mar 31, 2026

Once you convert a recording into a skill, agents can automatically follow your exact browser workflow during tasks.

Before you start

You need at least one recording saved in MultiClaw. If you haven't recorded a workflow yet, see Record a browser workflow.

Convert a recording into a skill

  1. In the desktop app, go to Skills in the sidebar and click Recording Library.
  2. Click Generate SOP on the recording you want to convert.
  3. If prompted, add any instructions to guide how the skill is generated, then click Generate Skill. This step only appears when you're connected to a workspace — if you're not, generation starts automatically.
  4. Review the generated Display Name and Description, and update them if needed.
  5. Optionally, add an Emoji to help identify the skill at a glance.
  6. Click Save Skill.

After you click Save Skill, the skill appears in your skill list. It's ready to use immediately — no restart required.

Where your skill is stored depends on your connection:

  • Not connected to a workspace: the skill is saved locally at ~/.openclaw/workspace/skills/.
  • Connected to a workspace: the skill is saved directly to MultiClaw Cloud and is not stored locally.
Tip:

Write the description starting with "Use when…" — for example, "Use when the user needs to submit a timesheet on the HR portal." A clear description helps agents match the skill to the right task.

Warning:

If generation stalls or shows an error, check that your internet connection is stable and try again. When connected to a workspace, confirm you're still connected before retrying.

Note:

Skill content is derived from your recording. When you connect to a workspace, the skill is saved directly to MultiClaw Cloud. If your recording captured interactions involving personal data belonging to others, you are responsible for ensuring you have a lawful basis to process and store that data. For details on how skill data is stored and processed, see our Privacy Policy.

What happens next

Your skill is available to agents immediately. If you're connected to a workspace, agents running on cloud desktops can use it as part of tasks you approve.

To view, edit, or disable a skill, see Manage your skills.
